Five months to the day since I used your fix. I've been up and running 24/7 the entire time without a single problem.

I had to use tall caps, but grinding away a tiny bit of the case was no problem. It went together perfectly.

Thanks!

Capacity is not very important- more farads, better the quality of the voltage. Only one thing to check- in the input of regulator the voltage is 16V or something like this, so cap must be 16 or more volts. After regulator voltage is only 5, 3 or even 1.8V. So here come 6.3V caps from mainboards. And only physical size matter- if you place tall cap, you can not close the box. :)

16V caps must be in same line as input power connector. Just use tester in line continuity mode and check "+" line.

Okay, I've disassembled one of my GLs, but I don't know which cap should be 470uF. Can you give me a pointer?

Thanks!

Wow! This is an excellent post! I have two GLs both running Tomato. About every six to eight weeks I have to swap them out. The "bad" one eventually becomes the good one...

I think I'll disassemble the current "bad" one and replace the caps, find out if this helps.

Thanks for the info!
